The
Woolkeepers®
It takes a community.
From yesterday to tomorrow.
The origins of Woolkeepers® started in 2018 with the simple idea of creating a small community of farmers who grow their wool in an environmentally focused way, while paying them a fair price in return. We realised we had something really special on our hands, something that could create greater impact beyond the gate post and the wool itself.
Today, Woolkeepers® is a collective of 1,000 farmers (and growing) who are working with holistic practices that are vital to restoring the land and safeguarding their animals, producing the highest quality eco-positive wool that can be traced right back to its beginnings.
As we look to the future we believe wool has the natural power to create systemic change on society and nature. By supporting the transformation of farming and the move towards regenerative practices we are creating a virtuous cycle of value for everyone on this journey.
The journey towards Regenerative Agriculture is at the heart of our mission. We recognise we cannot do this alone.
Dr Vincent Walsh is a leading supply chain innovator and expert on large scale decarbonisation programs. By joining forces we are exploring how innovative thinking is being applied in hill lands in Yorkshire to break new ground and provide valuable learnings for other farmers wanting to adopt a more circular approach at the same time as improve the efficiency of their landscapes.
Our Values
Connection.
Every batch of wool is connected to the specific farm where the wool has been grown. Every fleece is assessed for structure, strength, and elasticity. This ensures that only the best fibres are used, extending the lifespan of wool products and reducing environmental impact.
Care.
Tracing Woolkeepers® wool back to its origins brings assurance to every fibre, placing value on land stewardship, animal welfare and holistic farming practices - making wool the conscious choice for a regenerative future.
Community.
Farmers are part of a wool-buying model that reaches to pay higher prices. Every step in the journey of our wool is a step towards a future, where greater value and sustainable prosperity builds the community, using Woolkeepers® wool assures positive change is possible.
Creating Positive Impact.
The journey towards Regenerative Agriculture is at the heart of our mission. By allowing sheep to graze in a way that encourages natural plant growth, we can improve soil health, increase biodiversity and sequester carbon, effectively tackling climate change. Healthy, contented sheep produce superior wool, leading to better-performing products for everyone. Our commitment is to use Wool as a Force for Good by supporting change in the following ways:
Financial impact – we work up and down the supply chain to ensure everyone benefits from the virtuous cycle of value we’ve created, and farmers receive a fair price.
Community impact – our focus is to empower wool advocates, from previously forgotten rural communities to those who are closer to the finished product.
Environmental impact – Every step we take on our journey towards Regenerative Agriculture will lead to a transformation of the land, the soil beneath us, the animals that graze on it and the biodiversity of our planet.
Becoming a custodian – We are handling a valuable raw material that deserves to be cared for; we envisage a time when we all become custodians of this truly clever product as well as of the planet.
We are delighted to announce that we are a Planet Mark Certified Business. Becoming Planet Mark Certified means that we have taken the best first step towards achieving net zero, at a critical time for our planet. As part of our sustainability journey, we are committed to increasing what we are measuring to eventually understand our total carbon footprint. While taking strides towards understanding our net zero baseline, we are committed to making incremental reductions in our Scope 1 and 2 emissions to accelerate our journey in Planet Mark’s Net Zero Certification Programme.
